 [TV리포트=이혜미 기자] '서초동' 이종석이 동성애자 원고의 아웃팅 없이 재판을 주도했다.
 5일 tvN '서초동' 첫 회에선 주형(이종석 분)과 희지(문가영 분)의 재회가 그려졌다.
 주형은 법무법인 경민의 어쏘 변호사로 9년차 프로 직장인의 삶을 사는 중. 굳은 얼굴로 출근한 주형은 "하기 싫어"라고 푸념하면서도 지체 없이 업무를 시작했다.
 외근 중에는 재판을 복기하며 의욕을 다지는 1년차 신입 변호사들을 보며 미묘한 미소를 짓기도 했다. 이미 변호사 2년차에 모든 의욕을 잃었던 주형은 앞선 재판에서 승소하고도 이렇다 할 반응을 보이지 않았다.
 폭행 사건의 변호도 맡았다. 1심에서 상해죄로 선고유예 판결을 받았다는 의뢰인은 "사실은 제가 안 때렸습니다. 일이 커질까봐 인정했습니다. 어차피 상대방 말을 믿어주는 것 같아서 적당히 인정하고 끝내려고 했습니다"라고 털어놨다.
 이어 "당시엔 겁이 나서 그랬는데 다시 생각해보니 이건 아니다 싶더라고요. 그래서 진실을 밝히고 싶어서 찾아왔어요"라며 경민을 찾은 이유를 전했다.
 이에 주형은 "그냥 진실을 찾고 싶어서. 그렇다고 치고, 피해자와는 어떻게 아는 사이세요?"라고 건조하게 물었고, 의뢰인은 "제가 세무사로 일하고 있는데 자주 찾아주시는 고객이에요. 수수료 문제 때문에 시비가 붙어서 제가 폭행했다고 주장하더라고요"라고 답했다.
 의뢰인의 시각장애인으로 "보시다시피 저한테 일 맡기는 분들이 많지 않아서 고객 한 분 한 분이 제게 소중한데 제가 왜 고객을 때리겠습니까?"라고 강조했으나 주형은 이번에도 별 다른 동요 없이 "그럼 일단 무죄 다투시는 걸로 알고 다시 연락 드릴게요"라고 사무적으로 말했다.

 이날 의뢰인과 폭행을 주장하는 남성이 전 연인이었음을 간파한 주형은 "속이려고 한 게 맞지요. 사귀다가 헤어진 사이에서 폭행은 동기로 충분합니다. 데이트 폭력. 헤어지자고 해서 때린 겁니까?"라고 의뢰인을 추궁했다.
 이에 의뢰인은 "안 때렸습니다. 제가 헤어지자고 해서 이런 일을 벌인 겁니다. 제가 사귀는 동안에 빌려준 돈을 갚으라고 해서 그렇게 된 겁니다. 원래 갚으라고 할 생각 없이 빌려준 거였어요. 그런데 어느 순간 점점 금액이 커졌습니다. 계좌 내역도 있어요"라고 주장했으나 주형은 "그게 진실이면 처음부터 그렇게 말씀을 하셨겠죠"라고 일축했다.

 결국 의뢰인은 "그럼 우리가 동성애자라는 걸 밝혀야 하잖아요. 저는 커밍아웃을 했지만 승국인 아니에요"라고 고백했고, 주형은 "결국 김승국 씨를 보호하고자 했지만 항소를 하셨네요?"라고 추궁했다. 그제야 의뢰인은 "마지막 배려를 하려고 했는데 그 배려의 값어치가 너무 비싸더라고요"라고 이실직고했다.
 이어진 재판에서 주형은 승국에 대한 아웃팅 없이 재판을 이끌었고, 이에 의뢰인은 고마움을 표했다. 극 말미엔 주형과 희지의 재회가 그려지며 '서초동'의 본격 시작을 알렸다.
