 [TV리포트=남금주 기자] 이계호 교수가 세상을 떠난 딸을 떠올리며 눈시울이 붉어졌다.
 6일 방송된 tvN '유 퀴즈 온 더 블럭'(이하 '유퀴즈')에서는 화학자 이계호 교수가 등장했다. 
 이날 밥상 위 독을 부르는 식품을 파헤치는 분석 화학의 권위자 이계호 교수가 등장했다. 이 교수는 "눈에 보이는 모든 걸 분석한다. 우리가 먹는 상업용 먹거리인 1차 농축 수산물, 2차 가공식품을 25년간 전수조사하고 있는 화학자"라고 소개했다. 음식 속 성분 중에서도 유해 물질, 농약, 중금속, 발암 물질 등을 분석한다고. 
 이계호 교수가 영양소에 대한 진실을 공개한 가운데, 유재석은 "유독 젊은 세대들에 대한 걱정을 많이 하셨다. 영양소를 골고루 섭취하는 게 왜 중요한지 얘기해주셨는데, 그 이유가 따님 때문인 것도 있다고 들었다"라고 밝혔다.

 이에 이 교수는 "보통 그 이야기는 잘 안 하려고 한다. 아픈 추억인데 다시 떠올리면 며칠간 가슴앓이를 한다"라고 어렵게 말문을 열었다. 이 교수는 "제가 암 환자들 대상으로 건강 강의를 15년 정도 무료로 하고 있는데, 그 이유 중 하나가 딸의 투병 과정 중에서 실수를 너무 많이 했다. 시행착오를 많이 겪었다"라고 고백했다. 22살에 유방암 진단을 받았던 딸이 25살에 하늘나라로 떠났다고.
 이 교수는 "투병 과정 중엔 몰랐는데, 지나고 보니 그러면 안 됐구나 싶다. 특효약과 비법만 찾아다닌 거다"라며 "주변에 다른 암 환자분들을 보니까 똑같은 시행착오를 반복하고 있더라. 우리 가정이 겪은 실수를 반복하지 않길 바라는 차원에서 무료 강의를 하고 있다"라며 무료 강의를 하고 있는 이유를 밝혔다. 
 이 교수는 시행착오가 있었던 이유로 "비법과 특효약을 찾아다닌 것"이라고 밝혔다. 이 교수는 "암 환자들의 노트가 보통 이렇게 두껍다. 근데 제가 하는 첫 번째 강의가 뭐냐면 이 세상에 비법과 특효약은 없다는 거다. 우리도 별의 별걸 다 찾아다녔다. 그걸 악용한 사기꾼들도 많아서 사기도 많이 당했다"라고 털어놓았다. 
 딸을 치료하러 하와이까지 갔다는 이 교수는 "병원에서 치료 포기한 말기 암 환자가 민간요법을 통해서 나았다고 해서 갔다. 근데 거기도 하와이에서 나는 열매를 가지고 나름대로 했다고 하는데, 그 치료법도 근거가 없더라"면서 눈시울이 붉어졌다. 이 교수는 "그래서 전 계속 20대, 30대 여성들이 눈에 밟힌다. 전부 건강했으면 좋겠다"라며 진심을 전했다.
