EF/YONHAP</em></span><br></div><br><br>PARIS — DPlus KIA snagged the League of Legends title at the 2026 Esports World Cup (EWC), defeating France's Karmine Corp 3-0 in the final and extending Korea's three year winning streak at the tournament.<br><br>The Korean team beat Karmine Corp in straight sets on Sunday at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles to claim the League of Legends crown. The win came with a $600,000 prize. Bottom laner "Smash" Shin Geum-jae was named MVP and took home an additional $25,000.<br><br>The victory marks DPlus KIA's first international title since the 2020 League of Legends World Championship. Counting domestic tournaments, it is the team's first title since the 2021 summer season, five years ago.<br><br>DPlus KIA had recently faced wage arrears tied to the club's financial troubles. Players said the issue "didn't bother them," but the mood around the team had been tense. The team pushed past the distraction to lift the EWC trophy, following T1's win in 2024 and Gen.G's in 2025.<br><br>"ShowMaker" Heo Su, who won in the semifinal the day before, had said he hoped to "win tomorrow's match and protect the LCK's [League of Legends Champions Korea] standing." The only member of the roster with a previous championship, Heo kept his promise. EF/YONHAP</em></span><br></div><br><br>DPlus KIA controlled the match from start to finish. The team held a steady advantage in the first two sets and never let Karmine Corp close the gap. In the third set, DPlus KIA killed Karmine Corp's champions four times within six minutes to build a commanding lead. Karmine Corp fans could only watch as the deficit grew. DPlus KIA closed out the match in 27 minutes without conceding a comeback.<br><br>The arena was filled with cheers for Karmine Corp, who played in its home country. Fans kept up the same coordinated chants and cheers they had shown a day earlier in the semifinal against T1, and booed whenever DPlus KIA players appeared on screen.
